Pain can, and often does, stop us from moving or doing the things we enjoy. Yet often these things can be the route out of our pain. Movement is increasingly being evidenced as one of (if not THE) best ways to reduce pain in the body.
But where do you start and how do you learn to move without pain? It can be difficult sometime to even imagine moving without pain if it has been present for a long time. We take our time, we break down movements and we start with where you CAN move pain free and we gradually expand that. With the correct support you can move well, without pain and without the is protective patterns of holding, bracing or stress that you've had to apply in order to deal with the pain.
I have been working with chronic pain for over 10 years and it never ceases to amaze me how well the body responds when we slow things down initially and give it time to get used to moving safely. Then we can build up progressively and consistently without the body responding with pain.
I have extensive experience of working with specific needs such as:
low back pain
SI joint disfunction
disc herniation / bulge recovery
pelvic floor issues
neck and shoulder pain
We work together to gradually bring back strength, stability and a better range and variety of movement to your body - restoring movement. The body WANTS to move well and efficiently, we help it to revive these healthier ways of moving. Then you can get back to living your life feeling more balanced, stable and in control again.
Pilates plays a big role in our sessions as it was so fundamental to my learning of how the body moves most effectively. I bring to this all the other learning and experience that I have from the last decade with regards to how we move, and how to restore healthy movement back to our body.
The content of our sessions are individually tailored to you based on what's currently going on for you, where you want to be, how you learn, and how your body moves.
Sessions are very much a joint partnership. While you ultimately do the work, we find the solutions together. I help you to become aware of how you are moving, how you could move and bring many years of experience of working with other individuals who have successfully used movement to find their way out of pain. Most importantly, I provide support as you learn to move in ways that feel better for you.
